Steps When
Making a Move
- Talk to your financial planner and accountant to
discuss your plans and ask for advice.
- Invite your real estate agent to tour your home and
prepare a comparative market analysis.
- Ask your agent what to expect when selling your home,
how showings will be set up, etc.
- First impressions are lasting ones. Spruce up the
exterior of your home. Have yard work done, flowers planted, etc. An agent
should give you tips to make your home in tiptop showing condition.
- Take photos of the interior of your home to preserve
memories.
- Decide which items you want to take with you to your
new home.
- Begin sorting your personal and household items 3-6
months before your move.
 | Start by doing one room at a time. |
 | Decide which items you want to give
to family & friends. |
 | Obtain professional appraisals for
antiques & collectibles. |
 | Donate items of historical value to
schools or libraries. |
 | Consider using a consignment shop to
sell some items. |
Start using your frozen foods, canned goods and
cleaning supplies.
Select your mover 8 weeks in advance if possible.
Pack an overnight bag for the day of your move. Relax
and let your movers do the work!
